Mandarin Wok (17/114)

Tiffany had a sudden craving for Taiwanese food (missing the food from home... aka NJ!) So today we went to Mandarin Wok on Green St. near Bombay Grill. We weren't sure if it actually served Taiwanese food but the menus outside seemed promising and we dared inside.

Fortunately for Tiffany they were a Taiwanese/Cantonese hybrid restaurant! They had everything from dim sum to classic Taiwanese dishes. Along with the printed menu, there were a ton of dim sum specials and drink specials coating the walls of the restaurant! Yanfen didn't recognize anything on the menu so she got the owner's advice to order a Taiwanese classic: beef noodle soup! Tiffany satisfied her craving with a huge Taiwanese style pork chop over rice!

Final Review:

Enviroment: 7/10
To no one's surprise, this place is packed with Asians! That's always a good sign at Chinese restaurant and usually means the food is authentic!

The seating is pretty crowded with little elbow room so we wouldn't recommend it for a meeting with a huge group of people or a date, but it would good for a small group of friends. They have a second seating area that seem to be opened only when the first side is completely filled. They also had self served tea along with fountain drinks

Beef Noodle Soup - Yanfen

YUM!! I absolutely LOVE this dish! I wasn't expecting much from the dish since I don't usually like soup, or noodles but this dish was amazing! The noodles were just right, not too mushy and not too hard and the soup had a bit of spice in it that went well with the beef. The only complaint I had was with the vegetables. They had only shopped down the middle of the plant so all the leaves were still connected and it was hard to separate and eat.

Overall, it was very very good, definitely try it when you have the chance!

Pork Chop over Rice  - Tiffany

 Taste (7/10) Price (9/10) Fullness (9/10)

So for those who are unfamiliar, this porkchop is deep fried, put on plain white rice, and there is meat sauce on the rice. Compared to what I usually get at home this wouldn't rate that high, but they are the only restaurant that I've seen out here that serves it! They give you 2 porkchops which is pretty generous compared to others; but it is also thinly sliced and a bit too oily. There also isn't enough breading on it, and it doesn't give that nice texture (think fried chicken!) That said, the meat sauce with rice is pretty good and the flavor come out pretty true!
