Panera (5/114)

So today we had a guest reviewer, our labmate, Jun (with the pink laptop!) He hand picked our next review.
Moment of truth...

Asian pose!

Panera is a chain sandwich/bakery shop near spoonhouse on Green St. Tiffany happens to be a regular there. They sell delicious fruit smoothies, a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. They have also have bakery counter with breads, cookies and other deliciousness.

The menu

Yanfen got a rewards card, and it came with a free baked good! There's a display case with baked goods and she settled on the pecan roll for dessert!

Tiffany and Yanfen opted for their pick two deal where you get a soup and half a sandwich for $6.79. Jun went for a sandwich.

Yanfen was really surprised when they called her name once the order was ready, forgetting that her name was on her panera card!

Final Review:

Environment - 9/10

This place had a homey, relaxed feel with all sorts of bread and sweats on display when you walk in.

The sitting area is in two distinct areas, both cornered off with walls. It gives it a very secluded feeling, perfect for a date or meeting. However, the walls does make the place seem smaller and the entire area doesn't seem like one united place.

As far as restaurants go, it seemed very quiet and not very smelly, making it a good place for homework or for reading some papers. This place can definitely serve as both a sit down restaurant and as a cafe. It's perfect for a quick lunch or somewhere to study (they have free wifi!).

The place had enough people so that it didn't feel empty, but not too packed that there was a line or no seats. We did notice that the people next to us snuck in dunkin' donuts. There isn't really any decor and i'm pretty sure the yellow on brown color scheme is supposed to remind you of wheat and get you to desire bread.

Summer Corn Chowder and Tuna Sandwich - Tiffany's

Taste: 8/10 , Fullness: 9/10
I go here almost every week and I always get the tuna cafe with some sort of soup. They have this limited edition 'summer corn chowder' which happens to be low and calories and vegetarian. I love to dip the french bread into the soup, and I like how its loaded with vegetables and corn. The soup itself I swear has no milk/cream; giving it a strange vegetable acidity to the soup. Yanfen wasn't a fan but I like it.

The tuna sandwich is a tuna sandwich, there are a ton of fresh veggies, and it has some sort of mustard sauce. I think it taste pretty good, but the bread could be toasted.

The pecan roll was kind of dry, and didn't have that sweet/stickyness that I would desire.

Chicken noodle soup and Italian Combo - Yanfen

Taste: 7/10 , Fullness: 9/10
My general impression of the food is that it is good, but not very special.

The sandwich was pretty good and the vegetables seemed very fresh. My tomato made the entire thing very wet and water was dripping out of my sandwich as I ate. Next time, I would definitely ask them to toast the bread too. Italian themed sandwiches are my favorite and this one just doesn't seem as special to me.

The soup was the same. It was good, but not special. It tasted the same as the chicken noodle soup in the dorms (which were my favorite and were pretty good). For me, the soup could've used a little more pizazz, mainly more seasoning.

The pecan roll didn't taste as good as it looked. It was too cinnamon-y for me and the roll itself was too big. I love candies pecans though.

Asiago Roast Beef - Jun

Our Asian friend Jun was stressing about writing his review so we decided to let him off the hook. Instead he used a thumbs up/thumbs down rating system.
Jun rates an "ok".
